Hamsa India(Amcom) E-Waste Management

Hamsa India (Amcom) designs its business practices with an awareness that every electronic product has a life beyond its years of active use. As a company operating in the security and surveillance sector, we take our part in reducing the environmental and health impact of electronic waste seriously, and we align our approach with India’s e-waste regulations.

About E-Waste

E-waste, short for electronic waste, describes electrical and electronic equipment — along with rejected parts from its manufacture or repair — that has reached the end of its usable life and is set aside for disposal. It covers a wide range of everyday and industrial products, from household appliances and computers to networking and surveillance hardware such as cameras, recorders and switches. As dependence on electronic devices continues to grow, so does the volume of e-waste produced each year, and international assessments place global generation in the tens of millions of tonnes annually. Much of this waste contains materials that can be harmful to both ecosystems and human health, which is why it needs to be handled differently from ordinary household refuse.

Why Recycling Old Electronics Matters

Conserves Natural Resources

Recovering usable materials from discarded electronics reduces the pressure on raw resources that are becoming harder to source. Reusing what is already in circulation is an important part of reducing overall waste.

Reduces Environmental Pollution

Disposing of e-waste through proper scientific methods limits the pollution it would otherwise cause. Manufacturing with recovered materials also tends to generate less air and water pollution than relying solely on virgin raw materials.

Recovers Valuable Materials

Electronic products often contain metals such as copper, aluminium and other recoverable materials. As virgin resources become scarcer, e-waste becomes an increasingly practical secondary source of these materials.

Risks of Improper E-Waste Disposal

Health Risks

Substances found in electronic waste — including lead, cadmium, chromium, brominated flame retardants and polychlorinated biphenyls — can pose health risks through direct contact, inhalation of fumes released during unsafe handling, or accumulation in soil, water and food sources.

Greater Risk for Children

Children are more vulnerable to exposure from hazardous e-waste materials due to their higher relative intake of air, water and food, and because their bodies are still developing. Exposure at a young age carries a higher risk of lasting harm to the nervous, immune, reproductive and digestive systems.

Environmental Damage

Components such as compressors and older display technologies can release harmful gases, and burning plastic or rubber components in the open contributes directly to air pollution.

Accidental Damage to Electronics and E-Waste

Electronic products are engineered so that potentially hazardous internal components remain safely contained within their outer casing during normal use. When a device is accidentally broken or damaged, this protection can be compromised, allowing hazardous elements to leak into the surrounding environment. This is a particular concern where damaged electronics end up with informal or unregulated waste handlers rather than authorised recyclers, which is why consumers are encouraged to route any damaged device to a properly authorised e-waste recycler.

Understanding the E-Waste (Management) Rules

Hamsa India (Amcom)’s e-waste obligations are governed by the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022, which bring e-waste generated in India into an organised, environmentally sound recycling system, moving it away from the informal sector, where limited safeguards typically result in higher pollution, lower material recovery and greater risk to workers and the environment.

Our EPR Registration

Hamsa India (Amcom) is a registered Producer under the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework of the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022, administered by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

• EPR Registration Certificate Number: B-29016(3796)(EPR)/23/WM-III
• Date of Issue: 09 September 2023
• Validity: Five (5) years from the date of issue
• Registered Categories of Electrical & Electronic Equipment (EEE): Video Cameras
— EEE Code CEEW9; Video Recorders — EEE Code CEEW10
• Registered Entity: M/s Hamsa India, D-133, Okhla Industrial Area, Okhla, South
Delhi, Delhi – 110020

As a condition of this registration, Hamsa India (Amcom) is committed to meeting annual recycling targets set by CPCB for each registered EEE category, filing annual and quarterly returns on the EPR portal, and fulfilling its EPR obligations exclusively through CPCB-registered recyclers.

How to Drop Off Products at a Collection Point

The general process for returning an end-of-life electronic product for recycling typically involves
the following steps:

  • Pack the electronic item securely in light packaging to protect it during transit.
  • Identify your nearest collection point by contacting Hamsa India (Amcom) customer care.
  • Take the packaged item to the identified collection point.
  • Complete the form provided at the collection point with the required details.
  • Submit the packaged product along with the completed form at the collection point.

Do's and Don'ts for Customers

Do's

  • Check any documentation included with your product for specific end-of-life handling guidance.
  • Route your electronic products to Hamsa India (Amcom)’s authorised recycling partner for repair or disposal.
  • Contact the designated e-waste helpline when a product reaches the end of its life.
  • Separate packaging materials for recycling wherever possible.
  • Disconnect batteries before disposal and protect any glass components from
    breakage.

Don'ts

  •  Do not attempt to dismantle electronic products yourself.
  • Do not place electronics in bins marked “Do Not Dispose.
  • Do not hand over e-waste to informal or unorganised waste collectors.
  • Do not dispose of electronic products with general household or municipal waste.
